"Game of Code” was not my first hackathon, but it was the first with my team. I loved sharing this time together in a different context, as we usually see each other only at the office. Our participation actually strengthened our bonds.
As a developer, you should not expect to upgrade your coding skills during a hackathon, you will not learn a new language or improve - significantly - in those you already know. That takes time. However, participating in a hackathon is a great way to learn how to estimate the right duration of a task, to plan only what is necessary to respond to the challenge, and to deliver the right results, on time, with a touch of creativity.
Developers should definitely take part in hackathons such as Game of Code as it is teamwork by excellence that pays off, as it shows oneself's capacity in efficiency, and is a great opportunity to get challenged.
